Corrosion inhibition effect of citrus sinensis essential oil extract on plain carbon steel in dilute acid media

The inhibition performance of essential oil extracts citrus sinensis (CS) on the corrosion plain carbon steel (PCS) in 0.5 M H2SO4 and HCl solution was evaluated by weight loss measurement, potentiodynamic polarization technique, optical macroscopy ATF-FTIR spectroscopy. CS more effectively inhibited PCS compared to with optimal result 81.61% 76.95% from measurement. corresponding values are 94.90% 76.93% solutions respectively. Inhibition efficiency generally decreased respect exposure time, but increased increase inhibitor concentration both acids. observed be mixed type effect acids dominant cathodic reaction mechanism at 6%-10% solution. influenced anodic plots through surface coverage inhibiting redox electrochemical process. In significant influence anodic-cathodic results pseudo passivation behavior during potential scanning. Inhibition. FTIR spectra peaks showed aggregation molecular functional groups transmittance over a wide spectrum corroded specific due limited absorption protonated molecules. Optical images non-inhibited specimen exhibited severe degradation macro pits visible displayed improved morphology protection
